A Consumers approach to Modest Fashion

A Consumers approach to Modest Fashion

Modest fashion is not just a way of dressing, it is a lifestyle. The oxford dictionary defines modesty as "dressing or behaving so as to avoid impropriety or indecency, especially to avoid attracting attention", this describes accurately what dressing modestly encompasses. Modesty is often used as an umbrella term for covering up your body, which is true, but we often tend to forget that modesty is subjective i.e. YOU define modesty. Modesty can mean wearing a turban, a jilbab, or a hijab, what matters is your relationship with modesty and God.

We remember going to local markets, boutiques and thrift stores with our mothers for modest pieces, be it abayas or hijabs. While we'd prefer to go out ourselves and check out fabrics, colors and more, the modern muslim woman simply has no time for it.

Modest fashion brands simply eliminate the trouble and do all the work for us, to ensure we get the best of everything! (our own online boutique experience ;))

The pandemic has brought with it social and economic upheaval, and the future is uncertain. we all want to take our minds off of the happenings around us, and the ecommerce industry is here to stay! Why wait for restrictions to ease to go shopping and thrifting when you can simply shop online? While it is certainly convenient and easier to shop on E-commerce giants, modest fashion enthusiasts know the feeling of finding a beautiful dress but it turns up there a long slit or pants with rips in them.

It is safe to say we STRUGGLE with finding great pieces in fast fashion. We want to pick clothes from modest options not modest options from clothes

Why are the pieces in modest fashion so neutral/not in trend?

The fashion industry is known to go through trends in seasons, and months. To create a trendy piece, it goes through the design process, trials, errors and more, only to fizzle out in weeks.

To create a timeless look is one that doesn't "try too hard" to catch others' attention. Instead, it lets the wearer's confidence speak for themselves.

And that is what the modest fashion brands are a master of

Why should I invest in modest fashion centered businesses?

Modest fashion businesses are born out of a need for change in the fashion industry, to be more inclusive of different faiths, while remaining respectful to them. The pieces are created by women who have a hand in every aspect of the process, from design to finished product. It is time we took women's fashion (especially modest) in our own hands, we who have experienced the trials of bringing fashion to modesty.

Are these brands only targeted towards people of Islamic faith?

Even though our products seem muslim-centric, they are definitely not limited to one faith. These elegant outfits are for anyone who wishes to diversify their closet, or experiment with modesty. While keeping the perspective that Modesty is not limited to religion.
